For Children entering Early Kindergarten
through 6th Grade
Dr. Janci Bronson, piano professor at Iowa State University, will be teaching children's introductory group piano classes at the ISU Music Hall Piano Lab. Students will receive a beginning foundation in piano technique, note and rhythm reading, musical terms and symbols, learn several piano pieces, participate in fun music activities off the piano bench, plus more!
No prior music or piano experience needed. This class is designed for beginners to explore the piano!
Classes will be divided into 3 age groups:
1. Students who will be entering Kindergarten (including early Kindergarten) & 1st grade.
2. Students who will be entering 2nd & 3rd grades.
3. Students who will be entering 4th, 5th, & 6th grades.
Students are NOT required to have a piano at home to participate.
Minimum of 3 students needed in each class. Max of 6 students per class.
Parents of younger children are encouraged to attend class to help their child, but not required.
Each student will be seated at their own Yamaha Clavinova electronic piano equipped with microphone headsets, which allows them to hear their individual piano along with Dr. Bronson’s piano and voice for instruction.
At the conclusion of the class, Dr. Bronson will provide parents with a list of local piano teachers for students to potentially pursue private piano lessons.

More about Dr. Bronson:
Dr. Bronson has a Ph.D. in Music Education, with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy, which is the art of piano teaching. She has 15 years of experience teaching group piano. She teaches all the group piano courses to the ISU music majors, and has previously taught keyboard readiness classes to young children. Email Janci at with any questions.
